Forse in Italia sta tornando un forza politica di destra. Attenzione però, non mi riferisco alla destra estrema ma alla destra vera e propria. Non chiamiamola centrodestra chiamiamola destra. In questi anni si sono diffuse troppe sfumature nello schieramento politico che siede nell’ala destra del Parlamento: estrema destra, centro destra, destra, moderati, conservatori, liberali, popolari e simili amenità. La verità è che in questi anni in Italia la destra non è esistita: Berlusconi e il suo partito rappresentano infatti una forza semplicemente populista (e non popolare) e assolutamente illiberale, dal momento che le uniche liberalizzazioni degli ultimi 20 le ha fatte Prodi. Questo ha rappresentato un vantaggio per una certa sinistra giustizialista e moralista che aveva in Berlusconi l’avversario perfetto. Tant’è che spesso si scherza dicendo che Berlusconi è un personaggio creato dalla sinistra. Il PD ha provato a fare una campagna elettorale parlando delle vicende private di Berlusconi ma ha miseramente fallito. Infatti sono convinto che l’assenza di una forza politica di destra ha danneggiato più il PD di altri. Ma forse in Italia la destra non è mai esistita. Prima il fascismo poi Berlusconi, passando per una D.C. che altro non era se non un’unione di uomini di destra e sinistra (Dossetti, La Pira, Zaccagnini, Moro, Fanfani) di fede cattolica ed anticomunisti. Un problema non indifferente per un Paese storicamente di destra.

Ma forse sta nascendo una destra europea e moderna: il Nuovo Centrodestra. Questa forza politica sembra assumere finalmente i connotatati tipici di una forza moderata, liberista e conservatrice. Non è un caso, infatti, che sia il gruppo italiano meglio accettato all’interno del PPE. Ma proprio confrontando il Nuovo Centrodestra con i maggiori partiti conservatori d’Europa mi sorge un dubbio: ma è possibile in Italia avere una destra vera e propria, senza le solite interferenze religiose? Siamo infatti gli unici al mondo ad avere il Vaticano in casa e ad essere così profondamente segnati dalla cultura cattolica. Sarà mai possibile avere una destra libera da retaggi religiosi? Infatti sono proprio le questioni dei diritti che dividono destra e sinistra. Credo che il PD in Italia sia un bell’esempio di come si possa essere cattolici e di sinistra. Ma esistono persone di destra non credenti? L’anticomunismo sarà sempre meno il collante della fazione conservatrice. Si prospetta così un periodo duro per la destra post berlusconiana. Il pericolo è, però, che si lasci campo libero ai neofascisti e agli xenofobi. La speranza è che la neonata forza di Alfano prenda le redini della destra italiana e che finalmente anche in Italia il dialogo politico riguardi i contenuti e non più l’agire di un singolo.
Ma ora più che mai c’è bisogno di sinistra. Purtroppo l’impressione è che quando la sinistra vince è grazie a candidati di alto valore e non grazie alle proposte. Nonostante ciò io sono sicuro che per governare non sia necessario snaturare i nostri valori. Bisogna solamente aggiornarli e comunicarli in maniera più efficace. “La più grande sfida del nostro tempo è la disuguaglianza” diceva ieri Obama. Ovunque finché ci sarà la povertà, il disagio sociale e l’ingiustizia ci sarà anche la sinistra.
